Intensive Services Foster Care

Intensive Services Foster Care (ISFC) is a resource family based alternative to institutional care. Services and supports in the resource home are greatly intensified for children and youth who need extra structure and support.

Other services might include family reunification services, mentoring, targeted life skills training, or a liaison with the schools. Intensive in-home therapeutic and behavior-management services are an integral part of the efficacy of the GSFS ISFC program

Independent Living Program (ILP)

The GSFS Independent Living Program (ILP), “Soar to Excel” provides interactive life skills training needed for foster youth’s self-sufficiency in adulthood; increasing their educational, vocational, and housing opportunities for these youth who age out of foster care. While legally an adult at the age of 18, for most people, the transition to independence is a gradual one. During these transition years, young people’s families provide financial assistance, help them decide on a career and/or support them while they learn how to live on their own. Unfortunately, kids in the foster care system don’t have this luxury. A person-centered independent living program provided in case management provides foster children with the tools they need to become stable and productive adults.

  • The goals of the GSFS Soar to Excel ILP are as follows:
  • Develop independent life skills.
  • Skill development to work towards academic goals and achieve knowledge on obtaining employment and housing.
  • Cultivate healthy relationships.

Girl Power/ Boys to Gents

Golden State Family Services has Youth Empowerment Groups serving both females and males, ages 10-18, who are currently placed in the foster care system and with our agency. The group’s goals are to provide a non-judgmental, supportive, empowering and educational group for youth who face the daily challenges of being in foster care.

The groups focus on building self-empowerment, healing, prevention, and developing social, developmental, and independent skills that will assist them in adjusting to foster care and a successful transition into adulthood. The groups aid in developing problem solving skills and encourage the youth to reach out to peers and mentors when faced with a challenge or situation in an effort to avoid self-harming or injurious behaviors.

Youth Community Outreach & Exploration

GSFS believes that exposing our youth to the learning opportunities their communities have to offer will help foster their social skills and overall development by engaging them in positive and interactive activities through volunteerism and/or exploration.  GSFS hosts opportunities for our youth throughout the year, both local and distant, that provides amazing experiences and memories!
